‘Young Carers are children and young people under 18 who provide or intend to provide care for another person. They often take on practical and/or emotional caring responsibilities that would normally be expected of an adult’.
Young people care for a wide range of family members; parents, siblings, grandparents.
Students at The Thomas Cowley High School, who are identified as providing care for another member of the family, are issued with a Study Card.
A Study Card entitles a student to study time within school hours where they can access support with homework tasks. Study times are set for each year group, however if a student is unable to attend their study time due to another commitment, a more suitable time for that week can be arranged.
Each student also has access to a closed group email address which they can use to email the Young Carer Operational Lead; additionally members of this group will receive relevant information via this email.
Many parents have informed us that their child carries out a caring role within the home but if you are not sure whether we are aware, or your family circumstances change, please contact us.
